Global Business Risk Analysis for 2025

The Problem: "Have you done enough homework?"

From time to time, regulators and rating agencies have stated that many U.S. companies embarking on business alliances outside the U.S. and many foreign entities coming into the U.S. don't fully understand the risks that might be encountered that can produce surprises and very unwelcome consequences that often consume lots of time and effort to correct or unwind.

Fact Finding

Feasibility studies help justify and support cross-border investment. Such research, or due diligence, often reveals issues that need further review, i.e. investigation. Investigation often involves discreet intelligence gathering in order to build a more comprehensive decision making model as many decision factors are not readily apparent. And, such factors may not be appreciated without the help of digging deeper.

IRI draws upon targetted interviewing and fact finding with a broad spectrum of agencies that include the U.S. State Department, embassies, consulates, World Bank, CIA, and international government and non-government agencies. And, there are many more "human intelligence" approaches. And, many of these are not readily accessible.

New Insights!

Corporate and government investigation projects have given our clients considerable insights into elements of contrary and unusual business practices including criminal activities, corruption, intellectual property abuse, and a host of threats that have bearing on many of the "hidden" aspects of international business. "How could it be that I never knew that?" -- you will ask?

How well do you sleep at night?

So, ask yourself, do you understand all the risk factors? Including those that you did not even consider important, but are, and you didn't realize it before it was too late? Do you understand all the implications? The potential for financial set-backs? The burdens on management to sort out issues that get in the way of your best laid plans?

Global Business Risk Analysis, typically, is handled by those overseeing general management, strategic planning, and corporate development. But, such analysis also involves legal, finance, compliance, operations, marketing, and human resources. Many in the business world simply never learned about the variety of risks that arise.

So, let's take a closer look...

Market Risk: business environment, competitive risk, supply and distribution risk

Product Risk: competing products, counterfeiting, gray market

Sovereign Risk: expropriation and local government intervention

Country Risk: trade, currency, foreign exchange, and monetary issues

Political Risk: the consequences of changes and frictions in government

Security Risk: threats associated with terrorism, cartels, extremists, personnel

Management Risk: succession, adverse intentions, criminal activity, corruption

Reputation Risk: unwelcome behavior that may adversely impact corporate image

Regulatory Risk: changing legal and tax environment

Custom & Usage Risk: conflicts between U.S. and foreign legal systems and regulatory oversight

Cultural Risk: consequences associated with disparities in management styles and cultures

...and that's just a few!
