Law firms are often engaged by corporate clients when specific threats escalate or events have occurred.  Law firms, in turn, engage IRI to undertake investigations, among other services, including crisis management. 

IRI often assists with product liability claims reviews, financial fraud investigations, and other investigations associated with various stages of litigation.

Especially since the advent of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and newly imposed requirements demanding the investigation of alleged financial improprieties, IRI acts as an investigation resource for law firms who find themselves in the position of "independent counsel" in the context of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act provisions.
